Rest Day
It’s a down day today. After a ferry-a-thon from Victoria, we are back on Orcas with our generous hosts Carl and Beth. We are using the time to do some housekeeping like laundry, backing up files, editing photos, etc., After two damp days on Victoria the sun on Orcas is very welcome. We’re on this beautiful plot of land that Laura describes as like a homestead with the edge of a forest a few hundred yards away. It’s a great place for a rest day.
Giving our Sea-to-Summit “kitchen sink” a work out : )

Hi Russ & Laura,
Hope you are both well. I continue to watch every post you make and read them without fail.
I’m still curious if you’re paying for all of your camping spots (aside from hosts like this one) or if you’ve found a way to find nice shelter/camping spots without having to pay typical city/county/state/national camping fees. In my research these average about $30/day and would imagine this can become a significant burden to this type of lifestyle. Any comments?
I am preparing for my own trip across the world later this coming winter and this is still an unanswered part of the plan. It may be one of those things you just have to find out on the road, but I’d prefer to know before I go. I have found New Mexico has a great deal for unlimited camping in a year for only ~$200.
Safe travels!
