REI Presentation a Success!
We just got back to our homestay and are winding down and had to put up a quick post. Thanks so much to the REI in downtown Austin for giving us the space and a special thanks to all our readers and Facebook Fans.
We had a great time meeting folks and doing the presentation. It was an intimate setting with only 40 seats and there was only one empty seat! We are so stoked that those that made it braved the crazy SXSW scene!
Everyone who attended got a free copy of Adventure Cyclist and a cool transparent bike sticker.
Some lucky attendees who answered our trivia questions correctly got some great prizes like brand spanking new Klean Kanteens and memberships to Adventure Cycling.
One lucky winner walked away with this book that I purchased at the bookstore in Alpine after I got so many comments about it on our Facebook page!
Laura greeted the people that came in and made sure everyone who registered got first dibs.
We brought our bikes for show and tell.
A good time was had by all!

Well done! Wish you two were coming to KC!
wish i could have been there at your presentation in austin instead of being here in knoxville, tennessee. keeping abreast of your journey through facebook. happy journey and stay safe!
I bet it was a great time. Sorry I missed it. Maybe next time REI will video broadcast if for us folks out here in the sticks. Thanks.
Although I’ve done a lot of bike touring, including a supported cross-country trip, I’ve been reluctant to strike out on my own. Your videos, still photographs, and stories helped dispel a lot of the fears I’ve had about planning my own epic bike journey. Thank you for such an inspirational presentation.
Wow Russ – what a great round up of the event! Thanks for including Adventure Cycling!

Very nice! Do you use a flash for your indoor photos?
Way cool! Looks like we might have some interesting weather for the next few days. Stay safe out there!
Hope you guys make it to DFW before I go on vacation!
Peace 🙂
One of the attendees at this meeting was Matt Cazalas who has covered 27,347 miles, on his Long Haul Trucker, touring the country in the last two years. Matt is an interesting guy and its too bad you didn’t get to spend some time with him. You can check out his journal at
I guess your site doesn’t take links but Matt’s journal is on Crazy Guy on a Bike called “Long Haul Truckin”
