In our continuing mission to promote bicycle travel and to document the process, we’re beginning to discover the various stakeholders involved in making bicycle travel mainstream. For bicycles to be widely accepted beyond urban centers and cities and into rural communities, the argument has to be an economic one. Not everyone will be swayed about bicycling’s benefits to the environment or even one’s health, but everyone listens when you talk about its impact to their local economy. We had a chance to talk to Kristin Dahl recently about TravelOregon‘s push to promote bicycle tourism throughout the state of Oregon. She talks about some of the benefits to rural economies, barriers to bicycle tourism and a few success stories.
