Great tips for the touring cyclist/story telling/photographer in all of us. I just made a comment and told you a little about myself on another post. But my big question, I guess, is how much post processing do you actually do on tour and what tech do you use. I am an amateur photog from way back in the days of film and have only recently gotten back into photography with new digital equipment. An Olympus OM-1 and GoPro Hero 4. Wow…using Lightroom and Photoshop the things you can do with this tech is just amazing. Like coming from being a roadie to MTBiker the skill set is different and the learning curve is like climbing Lolo Pass. Thanks in advance. Jeffrey
Hey there Jeffrey,
For post-processing I try to do as little as possible. I use Adobe Lightroom and basically adjust the curves so I get nice blacks, nice colors in the mids and bring up the highlights for contrast. This takes about 20 seconds a photo. My shooting philosophy is to get as much of it right in-camera as possible! It just saves time with the post processing.
Hope that helps!
Russ
Hi Russ,
I was wondering if you could recommend a bag and possibly the best way to take a 4×5 on a touring bike? I get a lot of mixed answers from people…some say panniers are the best, others say porteur bags, and others say best to wear a backpack.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks!
Michael
Some of the photos you’ve shown in the vlog are just amazing. Love your work. Also, you have shared some amazing tips that will surely help me take better photos not just of bicycles but just generally. I do travel very often and I keep waiting for the right moment. I never thought about “making” the perfect moment. Thank you for your tips.
Very informative, Russ! Probably one of the more practical videos/lessons I’ve come across in regards to travel and bicycle photography!
