I am also a fan of Bag Balm for faster healing; it has an antiseptic. I use it on very hot days in selected areas as a chamois cream. The combination of miles and my skin mean that I don’t need chamois cream unless riding more than 24 hours. I learned about Bag Balm when I was young; we had milk cows. It comes in little tins at farm supply stores for use on chapped lips. A reminder, like you said, keep it in a plastic bag. If it melts,, it becomes a messy, runny oil.
A friend is a big fan of Lantiseptic Skin Protectant because of its high lanolin content for people prone to sores or for hot or humid environments that would dilute or was away water based formulas.
A rinse with your water bottle like a DIY bidet using gravity to keep the bottle clean can help keep irritated skin from getting worse during the rest of a ride.
Baby powder has another use on my bike. After patching a tube, I put it in a plastic bag with some baby powder for storage and treatment to keep it from sticking to the inside of the tire.
Thanks for the shout-out! We (Bag Balm) want to let you know we now have an On-the-Go Tube, it holds up well in the hotter temps and is easier to bring with you… now available for purchase at bike retailers through KHSBicycles.
HI Russ,,
I agree with your methods just a couple different products.
Mad Alchemy Eeuro Pro Chamois Creme has a touch of cooling mint!
I have used Gold Bond medicated powder for years.
I also like Bag Balm in the same Go Tube as you do. I have yet to see tubes in any retail location, and believe me I have looked. I wish it was easily available.
