Bar Mitts are indeed great, I’ve been riding with them the past two winters and wish I’d gotten them a lot sooner. I rode last night when it was 10 degrees and windy out, and with the pogies and a basic set of ski gloves my fingers stayed perfectly warm the whole ride.
The only disadvantage I’ve found to Bar Mitts is that, with drop bars, they work like sails, so you have be wary of strong crosswinds. However, that is a very small price to pay for avoiding the pain of having nearly frostbitten fingers and the danger of not being able to brake anymore because your hands have gone completely numb.
I like the idea of these things but you really can’t beet a pair of gloves
Pogies are necessary for any extended subfreezing rides. Haven’t found gloves that cut it.
Have you tried them on your Brompton? If so, how does it fold with the Bar Mitts on?
