Sea Otter: Gravel Bikes and More
In Part 2 of our Sea Otter coverage we take a look at gravel bikes and yes, even a few e-bikes. We get a closer look at bikes we have only seen online like the new Salsa Warroad, Rodeo Labs bikes and Fuji Jari. We also give a closer look at the much awaited electric Brompton and a new e-bike from Xtracycle.

Hey Russ, I’m a huge fan of your reviews and have been wondering what you’d think about adding a feature that no one else is doing. That feature?
Actually measuring the width of tires mounted on a rim.
I realize that different rims can cause the same tire to vary in width, but I think that if you specify the internal width of the rim you’re using we ought to be able to figure it out.
I ask this because I have been disappointed a fey times when I had my LBS get me some tires, only to find out that they didn’t come close to what the spec was. I;m beginning to think it happens, in part, because they’re trying bring a tire in at a light weight.
But if somebody’s 40mm weighs the same as another company’s 42mm, it’s useless information if they are both actually 40mm wide. Interestingly, Specialized tires seem to be pretty much on spec.
