In the backroom of a quirky Sacramento bike shop that specializes in vintage utilitarian bikes, we saw what might be one of the early ancestors to the modern gravel bike – the Specialized Rock Combo.

It’s nearly identical to the nishiki saga
I’ve got one of those! They were made in 89, and they were also available with flared drops that are oh-so-narrow.
