Sulphur Mountain is one of those must do rides if you like mixed terrain riding and are in the charming foothill town of Ojai.  Nearly the entire length of Sulphur is road turned trail that is gated from cars.  The total length of the climb is about 10 miles with about 2500 feet of elevation gain.  The grades are generally reasonable and the Shire-like scenery more than makes up for it.  Word to the wise: do it in the cooler months.

You can ride Sulphur Mt many ways.  If you prioritize a trafficless experience like we do, we suggest doing it as an out and back and skipping 150 back into town (unless you want to end the ride in town).  You can extend the ride by starting in Ventura and taking the Ojai Valley trail from the ocean and connecting to Sulphur Mt. that way.  That makes for an awesome ocean to the mountains ride.  Another good place to start is Foster park if you just want to do Sulphur as an out and back.
