4 Modern ATBs Compared
Gravel is so 2015 :). The new hotness is the re-emergence of the the ATB (“all terrain bicycle” or “alternative terrain bicycle” depending on your levels of sarcasm), a multi purpose and multi terrain bike. In this video, I give a quick working definition of the ATB and compare 4 bikes which I think fit the bill: Velo-Orange Piolet, Ritchey Ascent, Rivendell Susie Longbolts, Tanglefoot Hardtack.

I am interested in the Hardtack. I have ridden an XL size being driven my 92.4 pbh (long legs) and desire to have my base hand position (on the hoods for drop and in full brake access mode on alt bars) 3″ above the seat. With the drops this requires an uncut steer tube and a stem with around 100 mm of stack and 0-30cm of length. I rode the bike with drops that have a 65 mm reach. I would LOVE to have the option of putting something like the Crazy Bar on this bike BUT…the distance from the clamp point to the hand position on the crazy bar is -170mm. That would mean in order to match the hand position on the hoods I would nee a 235mm long stem. WHAT am I missing here.
