Friction Shifting in 2022?!
Friction shifting is considered “old” technology. However, it has many advantages to more current and “advanced” shifting systems. In this video, I talk about why I’m actually ditching indexed shifting in 2022.

I am going in the same direction probably. Derailleur – shifter incompatibility – planned obsolescence – going crazy, even with the electronic shifting that has no excuse.
And obviously, the prices.
I love your videos and attitude, especially your tireless experimentation!

Thank you! I needed to hear this. To use a cassette with a big tooth low gear, however, … say a 46 … one would still need a long armed derailleur to mechanically “reach” that big disk, correct? I’ve always had my eye on a 13 speed Ekar and wondering whether I could use a less expensive mtb derailleur than splash out $ for the Campy Ekar version. Would a Microshift bar end friction shifter have enough arc to reach all 13?
